Playing with Settlers

I just finished playing a game of Settlers of Catan with Chase and Josh. I did win, but I had an extremely strategic position and Josh was relearning the game after a long absence, so it was hardly fair. That of course won't stop me from claiming credit for the win...:-)

Just a couple points of warning...avoid Chase's sheep and don't ask Josh which way clockwise is.

Full Car

We're on the way to church. I hitched a ride with Laurie and Brett. Laurie's kids are in the back and Josh and I are in the front.

I also found out the Brett'a aunt and grandmother will be moving into the apartment building next to mine. His mom lives down the street and I'm across the street from Laurie and Brett.

Just two

There were only two kids at Time Out, but it was a good time. I got to hold the younger one and when he started crying after having been asleep for a while I picked him back up and he fell asleep while I held him. :-) I like little kids.

I know that kids are hard work and can be a pain (personal experience there--no comments Mom, ;-)) but I hope I get to have kids someday. Yes sisters who comment annonymously I know I have to get married first. Someday...

Waiting

I'm waiting at work for a call from my nephew Josh. He is currently on a bus headed north from Berea. There is a small snow storm coming through and so nobody wanted to head down and pick him up so my brother-in-law bought bus tickets. It should work out well--I just have to go and get Josh from the bus station

I'm also planning to go out to dinner with some friends. It was the last day of work for a couple of people and so a group is heading out to La Rosa's to celebrate with pizza tonight. Hopefully I won't get there too late... ;-) I need to take plenty of pictures. :-D

Brian, again

I was showing Brian how the camera on my phone worked when I decided to record. The third voice you hear near the end is his wife.

Too early

Every morning it seems too early. This may be because I always hit the snooze button a couple times, but regardless the time to get up comes too quickly.

Even though I know that I'll enjoy the day at work I would rather lay here in bed for a while longer than get up and get ready...

State of the Union Text Blogging 05

Obama can't stop stealing credit and dishing out blame.
Bush had, and has, decency, class, and a sense of personal responsibility.
I can't wait to read afteraction columns and blogs...

State of the Union Text Blogging 04

Massachusetts embraced "meaningful change." It was called Scott Brown and he was elected for reasons opposite to those that swept Obama in.

State of the Union Text Blogging 03

Advice for our Dear Leader (respect the office, not the man)
1. Stop lying so blatently.
2. STOP blaming Bush. Have you heard of "the buck stops here"????
3. Repeat #2 until you enter adulthood (ignore #1 if necessary)

State of the Union Text Blogging 02 - MST3K

My sister didn't want to watch SotU, but I told her to treat it like a MST3K episode. She is watching a conservative blog live feed (Legal Insurrection) and reading some of the best out loud.
This reminds me of watching Clinton lie...I mean speak when I was a kid. ;-)
~Matt

State of the Union Text Blogging 01

I'm listening to TOTUS...I mean POTUS blame Bush, divert attention, take credit, an, well avoid the truth. But did I expect anything different? Nope...

Great quote

Regarding the State of the Union address:
"Things are so bad there is a betting pool on which DEMOCRAT screams ‘You Lie!’ tonight."

I can't say I'm heartbroken to see this. It is interesting to watch the speech.

Someday it would be interesting to see a comparison and analysis of FDR and Obama. The Dear Leader isn't out of office yet (and celebration may be premature), but somehow I don't think he has the (regretable) staying power of Roosevelt.

Easy Dinner

Last night I got home from work and didn't feel like going anywhere. I hadn't felt like stopping anywhere on the way home either. I haven't been grocery shopping in a while so I'm out of cheese, milk, and butter--this limited some of the easy things I could cook (no macaroni and cheese for example). Finally I decided to cook some egg noodles I've had for quite a while. Then I cooked a couple pounds of ground beef and mixed it with pizza sauce--a jar from my fridge I'd forgotten about and one in the pantry. I'm sure it would be better with actual shredded cheese, but I mixed the noodles and meat/sauce together and topped it all with Kraft Parmesan cheese. It wasn't that bad. I just heated up some of the leftovers for lunch (well somewhat breakfast--I didn't get up that long ago, ;-)) and have more that I can take into work for a few days. I think though that if I go shopping today (my day off) I will buy some cheese and top the other containers of leftovers.

I slept in this morning (I'm off today) for a while before finally getting up. It felt great.

Where have I been?

Well I've been busy, but there is nothing really new about that. Friday and Saturday I ran an overnight event at the Creation Museum. You can see a few pictures that I posted on the Museum's Facebook page here. It was a good event, a church youth group. All of our bookings have either been youth groups or schools. We have several more bookings and some interest--I've talked to a few people and need to forward information to others. The program is great, and actually a great deal if you're going to stay in the area when you visit.

Saturday I stayed at work a while and then left so I could shower and change before game night. It was a great night, as usual, with many friends from work. We met at Edana and Brion's place (though Jen had sent out the invitation she was afraid their place wasn't big enough). I took Gusher over, but sadly we didn't have time to play. At least one person who'd never played wanted to play, and others that are familiar with the game (since I've brought it to several parties) really wanted to play, but realized that we didn't have enough time. I need to figure out when the next game night will be because I do want to get in a game then. And if you've never played Gusher you're really missing out. It is an old game that my mom grew up playing. She and my granddad made a copy for her when she was an adult and a couple years ago she made copies for my siblings and I. It was an awesome Christmas present!!

Tonight I'm being lazy, sitting around in pajamas and a bathrobe I'm drinking hot chocolate and reading. It is a good relaxing evening. Oh, and I have a load of laundry in, but I don't like thinking about that. I hate taking care of clean clothes. Don't tell my mom that they don't all get taken care of right away... ;-)

Yes, that is the time. I went to sleep late last night because I was reading an engaging book. Tonight I'll be up with a couple different projects from work.

Brown Wins

I just left Bible Study. After we ended I immediately picked up my phone to check the Massachussets Senate results. I hadn't found anything conclusive when my mom sent me a text to say that Brown had won. I didn't believe it at first and asked who had called it. When she said AP I figured that it was indeed accurate. This is such a wonderful gift for the president on the anniversary of his inaugeration (sp?). :-D

Hooray!!

We're on the ground but the plane is taking a while to unload. I just realized that this is my first visit to Georgia. An aiport isn't much of a state, but I'll count it. I do plan to see more of the state someday.

Placerita Baptist

I have many good memories of this church. Because of my brother-in-law I'd visited often before I started attending TMC, though this my first time back since I left.

Rainy California

I never did find my raincoat before I left for California. Since I bought my coat in New York City (at the Empire State Building) I don't really want to buy another one. It hasn't been an issue as it hasn't really rained, until now.

Today there was a church picnic at Placerita Baptist Church. I attended there when I was in college and my brother-in-law is an associate pastor there. Thankfully things had mostly wrapped up by the time it started sprinkling and there were only a few things to hurry in.

Right now I'm sitting in my sister's van with two of the kids waiting for her to get back with the others.

NOISY

This is the noisiest bag of chips I've ever seen. My brother-in-law picked it off the shelf and was surprised by the level of noise it generated.

Waiting for laundry

I'm currently waiting for my laundry to finish. Hopefully it will be done rather soon. Today was a busy day. It started out early in the morning going to an apartment complex owned by TMC. Since they're not using it for students they rent out the apartments and one has been arranged for missionaries who are going to be in the States for a year (coming back from India). My sister has been helping to spearhead the project to furnish the apartment through their church. I was recruited to be a BOB (beast of burden--somehow that happens frequently when I visit people like my siblings and parents...) and help move some of the large furniture.

Then this evening my sister and brother-in-law went out to dinner, so I stayed home and watched their kids. It was fun. I used to do this fairly frequently (once a week) when I was in college. Tonight I made dinner and we baked and decorated Christmas cookies (Pictures on Facebook). Soon I'll head to bed and will then wake up for my final day in California. As I've noted a couple other places and times I'm not completely ready to head back home. That is the problem with taking vacation, I get used to wherever I'm at. I love my job and do want to get back to it and life in Kentucky, but it was great to be here as well. Of course it was just a visit and I couldn't stay much longer anyway, but it still feels like I'm leaving too soon. I wonder if I'll be able to come out next year for the next Truth and Life Conference. Unless I can find really good deals on airline tickets I don't think I can justify coming out each year, but on the other hand I really do enjoy things like this, and it is good to visit California. We'll see...I am considering Colorado right now. I need to do some quick research and see what tickets cost, what I can afford, and when (and if) counselors are needed at Twin Peaks... Much thinking lies ahead, and I know it will be a busy week at work. I have a program to help out with on Friday and then an overnight Friday night...

~Matt

PS Time edited to reflect Pacific time...it was still Saturday for me when I posted this entry.

As my sister would say

It's a grey day... She likes sounding like Eyeore when the day is rainy.

Now personally I like a good rainy day, but too many people equate rain with a dreary day.

I think today is the only day it is likely it will be rainy while I'm out her, so Sunny Southern California is likely to return soon.

Flying over California

We're about a half hour out of LAX according to the in-flight info. I'm suspecting it could be sooner as that would be quite a bit later than the original estimate.

Well the captain just said we'd land in twenty minutes or so.

Location

My iPhone thinks I'm in Utah. As I understand the GPS feature requires cell signal to operate properly. If you only have wi-fi it will try to determine your location, but may not be that accurate.

I assume that the wi-fi signal is being routed though Salt Lake in some way, hence that location on my maps app.

Leaving for Sunny Southern CA

I thought my flight left at 9:30, but when i double checked last night i realized it was 9:05. My brother-in-law was able to drop me off a bit early. Thankfully nothing was busy and I've had plenty of time.

I walked to my gate. Good exercise.

The train/trams aren't bad.

I wish the Creation Museum was on an advertisement like this.

I had to stop by Borders.

Lastly I picked up a quick breakfast at McDonald's.

I'm now waiting at my gate..,
