Starcraft II

I can't believe this game is almost out. I doubt I have a computer that could play it, but if there was one video game I'd buy these days this would be it.

Shōgun

I'm playing Shōgun with Tim and Kyle. I've never played before, so I'll blame my losses on that, ;-). Honestly though this game has been a valuable learning experience. I'm looking forward to playing more games in the future. Tim has played many times and this is Kyle's second game.

Intense Mario

Brion Sr, Adam, and Amanda are playing Mario on Brion's Wii. They are quite competetive.

Playing with Settlers

I just finished playing a game of Settlers of Catan with Chase and Josh. I did win, but I had an extremely strategic position and Josh was relearning the game after a long absence, so it was hardly fair. That of course won't stop me from claiming credit for the win...:-)

Just a couple points of warning...avoid Chase's sheep and don't ask Josh which way clockwise is.

Where have I been?

Well I've been busy, but there is nothing really new about that. Friday and Saturday I ran an overnight event at the Creation Museum. You can see a few pictures that I posted on the Museum's Facebook page here. It was a good event, a church youth group. All of our bookings have either been youth groups or schools. We have several more bookings and some interest--I've talked to a few people and need to forward information to others. The program is great, and actually a great deal if you're going to stay in the area when you visit.

Saturday I stayed at work a while and then left so I could shower and change before game night. It was a great night, as usual, with many friends from work. We met at Edana and Brion's place (though Jen had sent out the invitation she was afraid their place wasn't big enough). I took Gusher over, but sadly we didn't have time to play. At least one person who'd never played wanted to play, and others that are familiar with the game (since I've brought it to several parties) really wanted to play, but realized that we didn't have enough time. I need to figure out when the next game night will be because I do want to get in a game then. And if you've never played Gusher you're really missing out. It is an old game that my mom grew up playing. She and my granddad made a copy for her when she was an adult and a couple years ago she made copies for my siblings and I. It was an awesome Christmas present!!

Tonight I'm being lazy, sitting around in pajamas and a bathrobe I'm drinking hot chocolate and reading. It is a good relaxing evening. Oh, and I have a load of laundry in, but I don't like thinking about that. I hate taking care of clean clothes. Don't tell my mom that they don't all get taken care of right away... ;-)

I was too busy having fun playing games to blog. I did upload some pictures to Facebook.

Pictures

I forgot, but I did take a couple of pictures during capture the flag.

We wore glow in the dark bracelets to identify ourselves to our teammates and used glow sticks for the flags.

Cribbage

I've always enjoyed playing games. It must have come from my mother's side as my dad never plays board games and only rarely plays cards.

My (maternal) Grandad was a great game player, even near the end of his life when his dementia grew worse. Until nearly the end he could still beat the best of us in a game of Rummikub. However my favourite game memories are of playing cribbage.

I'm pretty sure that my grandfather taught me how to play the game. I certainly remember that I rarely beat him. When browsing the iTunes app store for games recently I stumbled across a cribbage application. I had to download it soon thereafter.

Playing this game on the computer isn't the same as with a board and deck of cards. However I don't have any local friends who play, so it is better than never playing any more. It does bring back some fond memories, even if this time around I'm playing solo on my iPhone.

Movie night

Tonight I had several friends over to my place. I cooked dinner (a roast in the crock pot, potatoes, and yes, salad...) and we watched an episode of Mystery Science Theater 3000 from the library. Yes, the movie was very stupid...but as usual the commentary was funny. It could have used just a bit more commentary though, to provide some more humour and drown out a bit more of the movie, ;-). It was "The Atomic Brain."

All in all it was a fun evening. Really though I need to plan a strategy game night at my place. I've been to a couple, but always somewhere else. I think I have enough room, especially if we only have a couple games going.

New Settlement

Tonight I played Settlers of Catan with two of my nephews. I went over to my sister's place for a bit and happened to look at the work being done on Chase's room. I noticed that he was trying to assemble a hand-created board for Settlers. He asked if I would play a game with him--using my game.

It turned out to be a fun evening. I did get to play a game a short time before my vacation. It was Easter when I took it over to the place where I go to Bible Study some Friday evenings and several of us played. I don't get to play the game often enough, but when I do I really enjoy it. One of these days I need to get one of the expansions, even if it is just so the game will hold together better with the border pieces, ;-).
