I'm listening to the siren from the fire station at the end of the street sound off. The first time I heard it I was quite worried--then I discovered that it is tested at noon the first Wednesday of each month. Since I'm not working Wednesday mornings I usually end up hearing it. It lasts for a couple minutes and the Doppler effect is interesting as it wanes and waxes.

You actually wouldn't hear the Doppler effect unless either you or the siren was moving. {/physics ramble]
I realize that. The siren actually is moving I believe, I assume it rotates in a circle. So I hear the sound waning and waxing.
I could be wrong and it is increasing and decreasing the volume, but it doesn't quite sound like that.
