Canyon Village

There isn't too much to Canyon Village, but we walked around as we were determined to see every major area in the park during our visit (or at least I was, ;-)).  A good deal of construction was obviously going on. The entry into one of the shops (attached to the lodge I think) featured construction barriers and tunnels (such as those you find over sidewalks in big cities when the skyscrapers above are being worked on.

As I mentioned before I tried to photograph as many animals as possible.

Inside the gift shop we found an ornament that I almost wish that we had bought--just for the heck of it.  It would be fun to see people's reactions to finding it on your Christmas tree--or when you hang it on their tree.

I really enjoyed seeing signs like these that explained the premises whenever we visited one of the park's general stores.  The sign reads as follows:
Built in the 1950s, this larger store reflects American attitudes and modern architecture of this era.  The color and feel of this store is fun and recalls the memories of Americans' first major venture by automobile to the scenic areas of Yellowstone National Park.
This region is one of the most majestic within the Park with the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone River as the ighlight; the views are vast, deep and sure to inspire.
Our store here has a wide selection of souvenirs, t-shirts, gift items, an extensive grocery store, and a unique diner with a menu from the past including hamburgers, fries, and shakes.

We didn't end up buying too many things within the park (except postcards for my collection) as we had stocked up on groceries before and they and the prepared food were a bit pricey for our taste (and budget). The store was pretty neat as it is a retro 50s design which you can especially see in the sales counter below.

One final product was rather interesting and creative in the setting considering the 50s fascination with both the car and National Park settings.
