Meteorology The relatively calm area at the center of a hurricane or similar storm.

The Hurricane Deck on the Cave of the Winds is anything but calm! It is the most exciting area on the tour route. It feels as though you are in the middle of a storm, though thankfully you can walk in and out of it instead of being surrounded as you would be by an actual storm. As we got closer to the top of the boardwalk area, that led to the Hurricane Deck, more and more water came over the boards. The water flow was quite fierce right next to the path.
I assume the high water flow over the boards encouraged the moss to grow.

This video gives you a slightly better look at the moss growing and the water right behind it.
Amy and I each posed for a picture on one of the landings.
In this video you can see the Hurricane Deck at the top of the frame before the camera pans down to show the water's path all the way down to the river.
Notice the amount of water pouring off of the deck.
Last year before our wedding I bought a waterproof camera. I knew that we were going on a cruise and would be swimming with dolphins (it was something Amy had wanted to do for years). It has definitely been worth every penny as I used it then and since in other wet conditions, like this climb up to the Hurricane Deck. At lower portions of the boardwalk I used my iPhone since it has a far superior camera, but I didn't want to use it to record anything when the water was pouring down.
This is the first video from the deck. Amy thought that I looked like a weatherman when she grabbed the camera. She couldn't see much of anything, so she accidentally cut my head off in the later portion of the video.
This video shows you a few more details of the walk on the deck. Note how much water is constantly pooling on the deck.
