Caesar’s Head State Park

On our way back from Ninety Six National Historic Site we stopped by a visitor center for Caesar's Head State Park.  We didn't have too much time to spend there, but we at least got to walk around for a bit and see some pretty nice scenery.

A granitic gneiss outcropping atop the dramatic Blue Ridge Escarpment gives Caesars Head State Park its name. Every fall, from the easily-accessible overlook atop the rocky peak of the Blue Ridge Escarpment, sight-seers are treated to the Hawk Watch program and a spectacular view that extends into North Carolina and Georgia.

Caesars Head connects to Jones Gap State Park in what is known as the Mountain Bridge Wilderness Area, an 13,000-acre area of pristine southern mountain forest. Hikers can take a number of loop and traverse hiking trails that connect the parks, and trailside camping is available for those who choose the longer routes.

The visitor center had a map table and a number of small exhibits about the park and historical photographs and buildings.
There was also a decent sized gift shop with many books, toys, and souvenir items.
We took a short trail towards a scenic overlook.
The view from this spot was gorgeous.
The kids enjoyed climbing over the large rocks nearby.
We then went down a path and squeezed between two massive rocks.
After going down a short trail we came to an overlook with an even better view than the one up above.
On the way back to the parking lot I couldn't resist photographing some blooms.

It wasn't a long trip, but it was a fun stop on our way back to the campground and we saw some great views not too far off the road.  A few more pictures are located inside this album.
