Of the Ruin of Beleriand and the Fall of Fingolfin

Today we read only one chapter of the Silmarillion, but it was a weighty one: Of the Ruin of Beleriand and the Fall of Fingolfin.
When we read about Finrod Felagund giving his ring to Barahir of the house of Bëor I reminded the the kids that Aragorn still had that ring many thousands of years later.
8YO: “Woooow!”
6YO: “Are the Green-elves green?”
Me: “They like living in the forest where it is green and wore green clothes as camouflage.”
8YO: “What about the Grey-elves?”
Me: “They’re the ones [of the Teleri] that didn’t go to Valinor.”
I explained that a cairn like Turgon built over Fingolfin’s body was a pile of rocks.
6YO: “Why not a pile of dirt so grass would grow on it?”
PS The eight year old is really looking forward to Beren and Lúthien tomorrow since she’s been interested in the story since we heard some of it from Aragorn all the way back in Fellowship of the Ring.
