Of the Ruin of Doriath

Tonight was a short chapter of the Silmarillion as we continued last night’s depression for the most part. But it also contained elements of hope.

Me: “Tonight we’re reading ‘Of the Ruin of Doriath.’ “
8YO: “What happened to the Girdle of Melian? How was it broken?”
Me: “You’ll have to wait and find out.”
“…there came forth the Shepherds of the Trees…”
8YO: “The ents! Were the elves friends of the ents?”
6YO: “Yes because the elves made the ents.”
8YO: “No. They taught the ents to speak.”
6YO: “Fine, have it your way.”
I had to interject to say the eight year old was correct.
8YO: “Who made the ents? I forgot.”
Me: “Yavanna. The wife of Aulë who made the dwarves.”
